Big Shot / Da Ren Wu

Summary :
Naïve, young Tian Si Si, the apple of her father’s eye and the sole heir to her family’s riches, believes that she is in love with the great romantic hero, Qin Ge of the Meteor Clan. She dreams of traveling the martial arts world, actually meeting Qin Ge and having adventures just like many of the stories that she has read and heard. From childhood, she has been betrothed to the younger son of General Yang, Yang Fan, whom she despises.

Handsome, melancholy, talented Yang Fan has been on a mission for his father to secretly investigate the Meteor Clan whose upright reputation and strength has been rising in the martial arts world to rival that of Shaolin and Wudang. He comes back injured and somewhat changed, troubled with memory loss after an investigation. He marries Tian Si Si as his father ordered, but Tian Si Si has other plans for her life and runs away at the first opportunity. She quickly becomes entangled in plots and counter plots as she discovers the real world. Both Yang Fan and Qin Ge are ordered to go after her. All is not what it seems as the Meteor Clan and its members, rivals and government agents are at work behind the scenes.

Summary :
This drama is a retelling of the well-known love story between a goddess and a mortal.

She can only regain her goddess status by accomplishing 100 charitable acts. Dong Yong rescues her and teaches her what it's like to be a mortal. However, she also learns how to love even though love is forbidden between goddesses and mortals. When their love affair is discovered, heavenly guards descend onto the mortal realm to separate the two lovers. However, they are willing to do anything to stay together.

Return of the Condor Heroes (1998) / Shen Diao Xia Lu

Summary :
The protagonist Yang Guo is the orphaned son of the antagonist Yang Kang from the earlier novel. He is raised briefly by the couple Guo Jing and Huang Rong (protagonists of the previous novel) before he is sent to the Quanzhen Sect for better guidance in moral values and orthodox martial arts. At Quanzhen, Yang is often picked on and bullied by his fellow students and even his teacher Zhao Zhijing is biased against him. Yang Guo flees and ventures unknowingly into the nearby Tomb of the Living Dead where the Ancient Tomb Sect is housed. He is saved by Xiaolongnü, a mysterious maiden of unknown origin, and becomes her disciple. They live together in the Ancient Tomb for many years until Yang comes of age. By then, Yang Guo sees Xiaolongnü more than merely his highly-respected teacher, as he has gradually developed romantic feelings for her.

However, their love is forbidden by societal laws in the Confucianist society of that time. They are forced to give up their love or become outcasts of society. Throughout the story, their love meets with several tests and tribulations, such as the misunderstandings that threaten to tear them apart and the encounter with Gongsun Zhi. Finally, after their reunion and marriage, Xiaolongnü leaves Yang Guo again, owing to her belief she cannot recover from a fatal poison, and promises to meet him again sixteen years later. While Yang Guo is wandering the land alone, he meets several accomplished pugilists and a Giant Condor. His adventures gradually mould him into a courageous pugilist whose prowess matches the Greats of his age. Yang Guo serves his nation time and time again by helping the Han Chinese of Song defeat the Mongolian invaders. At the end of the novel, he is finally reunited with Xiaolongnü and they are recognized as heroes of their age.

Summary :
The story is set during the Tianbao era during the reign of Emperor Xuanzong during the Tang Dynasty. Dou Lingkan, leader of the Flying Tiger Mountain Sect, and his godson Tie Mole are passing through a small town when they are attracted by a commotion. They realise that Wang Longke, a servant of the warlord An Lushan, is planning to steal a letter from Guo Ziyi's messenger. Apparently, Guo had discovered An Lushan's plans to rebel against the imperial court and he wants to warn the emperor. Tie Mole saves the messenger and becomes involved in the politics of that time. Tie is joined by several righteous pugilists as they attempt to undermine An Lushan's every move in his rebellion plot.

Legend of the Arching Hero / Legend of Condor Heroes (2003) / Legend of Eagle Shooting Hero / She Diao Ying Xiong Zhuan

Summary :
Based on the novel "Legend of Condor Hero" by Jin Yong, the story is set in the middle of Song Dynasty and at the beginning of the Nuzhen Invasion of China. Two dedicated Song Dynasty young men, Yang Tie Xin and Guo Xiao Tian find out that their wives are pregnant. They promise each other that when their children are born, they would become either sworn brothers or sworn sisters (if both are the same gender) or be married if they were of different genders. One night they befriend a Taoist priest named Qiu Chuji of Quan Zhen Sect who's wanted by Jin soldiers. Qiu Chuji dispatches soldiers coming to arrest him with ease and leaves when he sees a signal of his Sect appear in the night sky.

Yang's kind hearted wife, Bao Xirou, rescues a wounded man who turns out to be the Jin prince Wanyan Honglie.
When the Jin soldiers return, the two families are torn asunder. Wanyan Honglie takes Bao Xirou to the Jin capital while Guo Li Ping is taken by a greedy Jin soldier, Duan Tiande, to the Mongolian outskirts. Both women believe that their husbands perished trying to save them.

Upon discovering his friends' demise, Qiu Chuji vows to find their children and teach them martial arts so that they can avenge the wrong done to their families. Hot on the trail of Duan Tiande, Qiu Chuji "befriends" The 7 Weirdos of Jiangnan. In exchange for helping Qiu Chuji find the two women, they make a friendly wager. Upon finding the children of Yang and Guo, each side will teach the child they find their martial arts. On the 18th birthday of the two children, they will all gather and have the two duel each other. The rest of the series depicts the trials and tribulations that the two sons underwent. Guo Jing, Guo Xiao Tian's son, grows up in Mongolia under the protection of Genghis Khan. Yang Kang, on the other hand, grows up as a prince in the Jin Empire.

Summary :
Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse continues his string of period action dramas with the exciting epic series The Spirit of the Sword. This is Tse's third starring role in a Gu Long adaptation, following Big Shot and Proud of Twins, and he is clearly in his element, handling both the action and drama with convince and charisma. Television fans may remember ATV's classic 1978 The Spirit of the Sword adaptation starring the late Leslie Cheung, but this new updated version is an equally worthwhile and star-studded affair. Other than Tse, the drama stars EEG labelmate Gillian Chung of Twins, as well as Hong Kong actor Patrick Tam (Born Wild) and Taiwanese singer/actress Annie Yi (Poor Prince).

This new version of The Spirit of the Sword departs from the original novel by revolving around Japanese swordsman Bai Yi Ren, offering a new perspective on the story. Tse stars as a young swordsman who travels to the Middle Kingdom in search of seven mythical swords to fulfill his father's dying wishes.

Though he has no intentions of causing trouble, his quest unwittingly brings him into conflict with the martial arts world as he gets pulled into mysterious conspiracies and a dangerous clash with his stepbrother.

Orphaned as a child, Mo Ma (Vincent Zhao) grew up in the country and started learning Tai Chi from his mentor at a very young age. The devastating experience of being abandoned by his mother and eventually his mentor as well has left him twisted and full of hatred. After a series of events that leads to his house being burnt down in the village, his best friend Mai Fung-Nin (Kenneth Ma) and him joins the army. After yet another series of events, they saved Yin Chi-Kwai (Myolie Wu) and Yin Chui-Kiu (Selena Li) and travelled to the capital together. In the capital, another series of events leads Mo Ma to be reunited to his mentor and he starts learning Tai Chi from his mentor seriously.

Throughout the series, Mo Ma and his friends will experience many injustice that is planned by the Mayor's Assistant and the Head Police Officer aided by Lui Yau-Ngo (Derek Kok). The relationships of each character in the series will change and evolve as well especially between Mou Ma and Song Ching (Melissa Ng), Mai Fung-Nin and Yin Chui-Kiu and lastly between Yin Chi-Kwai and Tuen Hiu-Sing (Raymond Lam), Mo Ma's rival.
